Jennifer Onah – Ferona
Courses: Professional Sewing Skills and Pattern Cutting Stages 1 and 2.
Jenifer’s Story: Despite her parents’ wish for her to study law, Jennifer Onah took an Art Foundation course and went onto study Fashion/Apparel Design at the University of Hertfordshire and then onto work for Jonathan Saunders. She was always interested in couture fashion and even before starting her business, and “was always making bespoke pieces for friends, family and neighbours”. She took our Professional Sewing Skills and Pattern Cutting courses to brush up her garment construction technical knowledge to enhance the design process.
Where are they now? Jennifer founded FERONA, in 2012, a label renowned for its bespoke couture pieces offering versatility, function and wear ability. Starting her label because she “wanted to create an iconic fashion house” that would remain long after her time. She says ‘I loved watching the transformation that each client had from the start of their bespoke piece to its completion. The confidence that my creations gave to each individual client was so fulfilling; I always knew I wanted to do bespoke, one-off pieces.’
Jenifer Says: “I have learnt so much and developed far quicker than I imagined I would have. I am confident to try patterns and sew again and it’s hugely fulfilling … Thank you.”
