PROFESSIONAL PATTERN CUTTING
Professional Pattern Cutting for Skirts
Design, Cut and Make a Skirt
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
This course is aimed at competent sewers who have completed our Stage 1 – Pattern Cutting for Skirts – Part 1 course or who have similar experience.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
This course gives you the opportunity to try out your pattern cutting skills by designing a skirt, drafting and cutting the pattern, then toiling and fitting the skirt to test the pattern and finally making the skirt in a suitable fabric of your choice. You can bring your skirt block created in previous class or we can provide a block in a standard size 12.
It will cover:
- Create a design for a skirt
- Create a basic front and back technical drawing of the skirt
- Create a draft for the skirt
- Create a pattern for the skirt
- Cut out, sew and fit a calico toile for the skirt
- Adapt the pattern with any adjustments.
- Check pattern, add all seam allowances, pattern markings and instructions.
- Cut out and make the skirt in the fabric of your choice.
HOW MUCH EXPERIENCE DO I ALREADY NEED?
You should be able to sew and have made at least one garment with a zip before. You should be able to make darts, facings, attach a waistband and insert a zip. You should also have pattern cutting skills and have created a skirt block and learned pattern manipulations for skirt styles. If you don’t already have these skills, you can take our Complete Home Dressmaking course or Make a Simple Skirt course and our Stage 1 – Pattern Cutting for Skirts – Part 1 course.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
You will need to bring a design for a skirt. This can be either a sketch of your own design or a picture of a skirt you like. We can provide a template to help you create the design if necessary. You will also need to bring suitable fabric of your choice to make the skirt. We will advise and send details once you have booked.
We will provide equipment and pattern paper and calico.
WHAT COURSE WOULD YOU RECOMMEND AFTER THIS ONE?
After you have completed this course, you may want to try our Stage 2 – Pattern Cutting for Tops and Dresses course.
