PATTERN CUTTING FOR TEENS
Design, Pattern Cut and Make a Skirt

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
This course is aimed at teenagers who have made garments from a commercial pattern and would now like to create their own fashion designs and patterns and cut and make a garment from their patterns.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
We will start with pattern cutting for Skirts. You will learn how to manipulate the basic skirt block to create different skirt designs and details.
It will cover:
Turning darts into seams
Drafting a facing
We will cover:
This session we will touch on frills and gathering techniques and examine different skirt styles such as A-line, Pencil, Panel, Circle, Pleated. You will then draft a pattern for a skirt of your own design. From the draft you will create a pattern with all seam allowances and markings and make a calico toile of your skirt.
You will cut and adapt the skirt toile and finalise the pattern. Then using a fabric of your own choice, you will lay the pattern on the fabric, cut out and construct and finish your skirt.
HOW MUCH EXPERIENCE DO I ALREADY NEED?
You should have learned to sew and made at least one garment from a commercial pattern.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
You will need to bring 2m of fabric in session 3. We will give details when booked.
WHAT COURSE DO YOU RECOMMEND AFTER THIS ONE?
We will be planning a Pattern Cutting for Teenagers – Design, Pattern Cut and make a Top or Dress.
