PROFESSIONAL PATTERN CUTTING
Pattern Cutting and Making for Jackets (1 Week Intensive)
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
This course is suitable for both home dressmakers and fashion designers who wish to make or adapt patterns to achieve a perfect fit when making clothes. It would also be ideal for those wishing to achieve professional level of pattern cutting skills to work in the industry or set up their own business. It’s also perfect for fashion students or graduates to add to their technical skills.
The course is broken down into 3 parts:
Part 1 – Block Making and Fitting for Jackets
Part 2 – Pattern Cutting Techniques and Pattern Drafting for Jackets
Part 3 – Jackets Making Skills
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
We will first introduce you to pattern making jargon, terminology, equipment and methods.
Part 1 – Day 1
- Working from a set of measurements- either your own or a standard size – you will draft a jacket block.
- You will then transfer the block to calico, add seam allowances and construct the block in calico making a toile.
- We will then fit the toile to your body and make any adjustments to achieve a perfect fit.
- You will then transfer adjustments to the block and trace onto card to create your own personal block.
Part 2 – Day 2 and 3
- Drafting a Revere collar
- Drafting a facing
- Drafting a Jet pocket
- Drafting a lining
- Drafting a vent
Part 3 – Day 4 and 5
Using the Jacket pattern created in Stage 2 [ or a jacket pattern we will provide] you will cut out in calico and make a Jacket toile. The jacket features will feature a revere collar, a jet pocket, a facing, a vent and a lining. By making the jacket you will test your pattern making skills and learn to sewing and construction skills for jacket making.
HOW MUCH EXPERIENCE DO I ALREADY NEED?
This class is an intermediate level, ideally you should have completed at least our PATTERN CUTTING for TOPS , DRESSES AND SLEEVES Part 2 – Pattern Cutting Techniques and Pattern Drafting for The Bodice, Dresses and Sleeves course or have previous pattern cutting knowledge.
For this stage of the course you need to have at intermediate level sewing skills and have made at least 2 other garments, one with a sleeve, to take this course
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
You don’t need to bring anything as all materials and equipment are provided. If you would like to have and use your own equipment, we can give you a voucher to receive a discount at certain retail outlets where you can purchase your own.
