JULY – 2 Week Professional Sewing Skills and Pattern Cutting SUMMER SCHOOL
This intensive courses cover a wide range of sewing and pattern cutting techniques in a short space of time. It will provide you with the basic skills to design, cut and make fashion garments either for yourself or for a fashion business startup. On completion of the course you will receive a Fashion Antidote Diploma.
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
This intensive course covers sewing and pattern cutting skills. It’s aimed at absolute beginners as well as those who already have some experience and want to design, cut and make clothes and perfect their skills to achieve a personal fit and a professional finish. It the ideal starting point for those wishing to make clothes for themselves, apply for a fashion degree or to potentially set up a business or to gain industry level skills and eventually work within the fashion industry.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
We will first introduce you to sewing and pattern making jargon, terminology, equipment and methods.
WEEK 1 – Learn to Sew techniques including the workings of the sewing machine, needles and threads etc, seams, facings, fusing, darts, gathers, hems and buttonholes. You will be then given a ready cut out calico Skirt and practice the skills by making the skirt. Finally you will learn to lay and cut fabric and cut out and make a lined Dress in the fabric of your choice.
WEEK 2 – The second week covers taking body measurements, drafting a Skirt and a Bodice block to your own measurements, making the blocks in calico and fitting them to perfection. You will then learn pattern manipulations to create a range of features such as moving darts, adding flare, yokes, pockets, facings, waistbands, button wraps and collars for Skirts, Tops and Dresses.
