Intermediate Make a Simple Shirt
WHO IS THIS CLASS FOR?
This course is good for those with an interest in making shirts who want to practice by starting with a very simple style. This is also a good option for men who have learnt to sew and want to make their first garment.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
- How to use a home dressmaking pattern
- How to lay, mark and pin the pattern to fabric and cut out.
- Sewing seams
- Making darts [ women’s shirt]
- Attaching a one- piece collar
- Attaching a sleeve
- Making buttonholes
- You will them hem, press and finish your shirt ready to wear.
HOW MUCH EXPERIENCE DO I ALREADY NEED?
This workshop is for those who already have basic sewing skills or have completed one of our Learn to Sew classes and made at least one other garment. It a good first garment for beginners to practice their skills.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
We provide the pattern and buttons; you will need to bring 2m 10cm of a suitable fabric. We will send you more fabric details and a list of suppliers when you book.
WHAT CLASS WOULD YOU RECOMMEND AFTER THIS ONE?
You could progress to our Make a Classic Shirt where you will learn how make all the elements of a classic man’s or women’s long sleeved shirt with a cuff and a 2-piece collar. If you also want to design and make your own shirts rather we have a Pattern Cutting for Shirts course.
