Intermediate Make a Classic Shirt
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
This course is for those with an interest in shirts who already have some sewing experience but want to wish to practice constructing the technical elements of a classic shirt. You can either make a men’s shirt or make a women’s shirt. It’s a classic shirt with lots of details, a 2-piece collar, a double yoke, cuffs with a placket opening and a patch pocket. It’s smart enough to wear to work or casually at the weekends depending on your chosen fabric. We provide the pattern and you bring a fabric of your choice.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
The course includes:
- Basic use of over-locker to finish seams.
- Construction a double yoke
- Making a button wrap
- Attaching a patch pocket
- Making and attaching a 2piece collar
- Sewing a cuff and a placket opening
- Constructing and attaching a sleeve
- Finishing a hem
- Sewing button holes and attaching buttons
- Pressing and finishing
HOW MUCH EXPERIENCE DO I ALREADY NEED?
This is an Intermediate level course. You should have learned to sew and have made at least 2 other garments, one with a simple collar to join this course. If you don’t yet have these skills, you could try taking our Make a Simple Shirt course first.
