Are you mad about Vintage? Want to make your own vintage inspired clothes?

Our popular fashion garment construction course, with a twist; a fully packed weekend of vintage knowledge; sewing, lectures, sight seeing and shopping with a vintage slant in a creative and inspiring corner of London.

No sewing experienced needed, just an interest in vintage fashion and a spare weekend! Spend the weekend in East London, scouring the vintage stores for the perfect fabric, learning about vintage clothes from our experienced tutor and making your own skirt in our Brick Lane studio, ready to wear. Enjoy eating out in East London, take in all the atmosphere of the famous Spitalfield’s and Columbia Road market, and learn some timeless sewing skills along the way.

Our tutor and tour guide Jo Holloway is a vintage expert and aficionado, an avid collector of all things vintage and runs her own vintage online store www.joaniesjunk.co.uk . She will guide you around the vintage shops of East London with an expert eye, whether you have a passion for 50’s prom dresses or 80’s sparkle. Learn what’s collectable and what’s a bargain and discover how to upkeep, repair and look after your purchaces.

Brick Lane Vintage Fashion Weekends - 1 day

Sunday 10am - We will start the day with get together in the studio to give you the low down of what’s in store for the day. Over coffee and croissants tutor Jo will fill you in with lots of information about vintage and what to look out for on your tour. The talk will cover sourcing vintage, fairs and markets and how to look after your vintage finds including carrying out repairs and alterations and she will show you some key pieces from her collections.

We will then set out for our tour of Brick Lane where you can experience the sights and sounds of London’s hippest street markets including the Backyard market, the Sunday up market. Out and about in the Brick Lane area we will visit the many retro stores and places of interest including Rokit, This Shop Rocks and London’s first vintage department store Blitz. Mid afternoon, after a bite to eat in the Spitalfield’s market you can explore the all the stalls and shops in and around the market. The tutor will give you information about the history of the area and point out places of interest so you don’t miss out on all there is to offer.

By 5pm you will then be ready to head home with your vintage finds or maybe head off to one of the many bars or restaurants in the area.

We have arranged a 10% discount for you in many of the local shops.
The day is £105 including lecture and tour, breakfast and refreshments in the studio.

Brick Lane Vintage Fashion Weekends - 2 days

Saturday 10 am - We will start the day with get together in the studio to give you the low down of whets in store for the week end. Over coffee and croissants tutor Jo will fill you in with lots of information about vintage and what to look out for on your tour. We will then be out and about in the Brick Lane area visiting the many retro stores and places of interest including Rokit, This Shop Rocks and London’s first vintage department store Blitz. You will also have a chance to purchase vintage fabrics to make your skirt. We have arranged a 10% discount for you in many of the local shops.

After lunch we will return to the studio you will learn how to use a pattern, lay and cut fabric and begin cutting and making your vintage inspired skirt. [2.5 hours] Around 5.30pm the day will end with us winding down with a drink in one of the many local bars or cafes.

Sunday 10am - We will meet for breakfast in the famous Columbia Road flower market morning and explore the wonderful array of fashion, jewellery, vintage, antique and interior shops. The route will the lead us back to Brick Lane where you can experience the sights and sounds of London’s hippest street markets including the Backyard market, the Sunday up market and Spitalfield’s market where we will rest for lunch.

The afternoon will find up back in the studio sewing and fitting and trimming your skirt [2.5 hours] you will gain lots of useful sewing tips and techniques from the tutor.

By 5pm you will then be ready to head home with your stylish skirt ready to wear as a reminder ofyour fabulous Vintage Week end.

The course is £295 per person for 2 days, including 5 hours taught sewing time in our studio, lecture and tour, breakfast on both days and refreshments in the studio, and all materials, equipment and patterns, besides the fabric for the final garment.
